3rd NTUA Chess Tournament

The Le Roi – NTUA Chess Club, consisted of volunteer students of the National Technical University of Athens, announces for the third consecutive year the organization of the 3rd NTUA Chess Tournament in cooperation with the NTUA Central Library and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA.

Our goal is to establish the institution and to grow chess in the University, in order to utilize the notable interest and the talent that exists among the student community. We are calling those who love the sport and share our vision for its advancement within N.T.U.A., to embrace the institution and to participate in practice.
Participation in the tournament is free and open to all, with a maximum number of 64 participants. Players registered with the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and NTUA students are prioritized, depending also on the application time.

The tournament is held in knock-out style and will last 6 rounds, where each encounter comprises two rapid matches (15’ / 15”). In the case of a draw, two more blitz games (5’ / 3”) are played, while if a draw is repeated an Armageddon game is played.

The starting date is Saturday, November 3rd. The full schedule of the match days is shown below:

• Saturday 3/11 12:00-15:00 – Preliminaries for the Round of 32
• Saturday 10/11 12:00-15:00 – Round of 32
• Saturday 24/11 12:00-15:00 – Round of 16
• Saturday 1/12 12:00-15:00 – Quarter-finals
• Saturday 8/12 12:00-15:00 – Semi-finals
• Tuesday 18/12 15:30-19:00 – Grand Final!

The match days will be held at the NTUA Central Library of the campus.

The Grand Final of the tournament between the two finalists will be held in Amphitheater 1 of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA at a special event open to the public and in cooperation with the School on December 18, 2018.

Participation applications are submitted online at this form and the players will be informed via the e-mail they’ll submit.
