IEEEXtreme 13.0 @ NTUA

On October 19-20, 2019, the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the NTUA will host IEEEXtreme 13.0 programming competition as an activity of the IEEE NTUA Student Branch.

IEEEXtreme is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members – advised and proctored by an IEEE member, and supported by an IEEE Student Branch – compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. The teams are comprised of up to three collegiate students who are current IEEE student members.

Every one hour, two algorithmic problems arise, one of which is characterized as very challenging. The students can write code in the programming language of their preference and are graded based on the validity and the efficiency of their solutions. Our school will host students from all over Athens providing them with the necessary food,
guidance and utilities for the 24 hours of the competition.

In the context of guidance, it is worth noting that two separate trainings regarding the competition will be held in the School of ECE-NTUA. The students participating will discuss general algorithmic problems as well ae IEEEXtreme specific problems. In addition, the concepts of scrum and agile will be introduced to our participants by our branch's trained - and certified by Code.Hub - scrum masters.

Agile is a development methodology based on iterative and incremental approach. Scrum is one of the implementations of agile methodology in which incremental builds are delivered to the customer in every two to three weeks' time.

A week's time from the end of the competition there will be a Closing Ceremony where the three teams that performed best in our School will be announced. A discussion on software engineering topics will follow. Engineers from EY and Softone (sponsors) will talk on Cloud Computing, Internet of Things and Big Data. The whole event will end with a closing networking party.
