MEDPOWER24
The 14th Mediterranean Conference on Power Generation Transmission, Distribution and Energy Conversion (MEDPOWER24) was held in Royal Olympic Hotel, Athens from 3rd to 6th of November 2024. The event was organized by the National Technical University of Athens, the University of West Attica, IET Hellas, IET Cyprus, and The Malta Group of Professional Engineering Institutions (MGPEI) with the support of CIGRE Greece, IEEE Region 8 Young Professionals and IEEE Greece Young Professionals.
The conference left behind rich material from knowledgeable insights during the Opening Speeches (by CIGRE president Konstantin Papailiou and IPTO Director of New Projects Michalis Chatzipanos), Super Session on “Massive electrification for achieving NetZero Grid”, 6 excellent Keynote speeches by eminent speakers (Jovica V Milanović, Marija Ilic, João A. Peças Lopes, Bikash Pal, Harris Patsios, Alfredo Vaccaro) debates from 8 interesting Panel Sessions and 22 paper Sessions. The paper sessions covered a wide range of topics related to power systems, namely; Energy Demand Clustering and Monitoring, Flexibility by DER, Distribution Management Systems and Distribution Grids, Forecasting, Integrated Energy Systems, High Voltage Engineering, Power Quality and Efficiency, Energy and Ancillary Services Markets, Energy Storage, Local Energy Communities–Local Energy Markets, DER Integration in Distribution Networks, Power Electronics, Power System Planning, Inverter Dominated Power System Stability, Power System Stability and Control, Protection and State Estimation, HVDC & HVAC Transmission Systems, Condition Monitoring and Asset Management, RES Integration in Power Systems, Renewable Energy Technologies, Microgrids, Reliability and Resilience.
We are thrilled to share that the conference was attended by 276 participants from Europe, Asia and America! 121 papers were presented at the conference, from which the 3 best ones were awarded: «Key Role of AC OPF in Support of Energy Transition: The Case of Puerto Rico", "Impact Assessment of the Order Types Mix in the Greek Day-Ahead Electricity Market" and "Global Sensitivity Analysis of the Distance Protection Performance for Submarine Power Transmission Systems.
Moreover, in the framework of the conference a young professionals workshop has been organized where industry leaders shared their journeys, challenges, and innovations shaping the future of energy.
