Description

Οverview of the basic principles of Quantum Mechanics. Crystalline structure and chemical composition of solids. Electronic properties: Bloch's theorem, theory of energy bands of crystalline solids, calculation methods, LCAO method, overlapping bands and bands with a band-gap. Effective mass equation, low dimensional solids.
Transfer phenomena: motion of particles in geometric space and distribution of wavevectors in k space, Boltzsmann's transport equation. Landauer formula, conductivity of metals and semiconductors. Interdependence of structure and of electrical and optical properties of solids.
