Brief Biography


Dimitrios Apostolopoulos is an Assistant Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He received both his Diploma (2004) and Ph.D. (2009) from NTUA, with his doctoral research focusing on all-optical broadband communication systems. For his contributions during his Ph.D. studies, he was honored with the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Award in 2009. He also holds an MBA from the Hellenic Open University.

His research interests cover a broad spectrum, including optical communication systems, optical wireless technologies, converged optical-wireless networks, photonic integrated circuits for telecom, datacom, and sensing applications, and optical computing for Artificial Intelligence.

Prof. Apostolopoulos has authored or co-authored over 150 publications in leading scientific journals and has presented extensively at premier conferences in optical and wireless communications. He has co-organized numerous workshops and symposia at major international events such as ECOC and OFC and has played a key role in more than 15 European and nationally funded research projects.

He has served on the technical program committees of prominent conferences including the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), the International Conference on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies (N&N), and IEEE GLOBECOM. He also serves as co-chair of the Wireless, Optical and Satellite Networks track at the EuCNC/6G Summit.

Research Interests

Optical communication systems, optical wireless technologies, converged optical-wireless networks, photonic integrated circuits for telecom, datacom, and sensing applications, and optical computing for Artificial Intelligence.
