Lectures
- Review of basic elements in Digital Communications – Special cases and examples of contemporary digital communication systems [DMT and OFDM modulation, DSL and DVB-T transmission systems]
- Introduction to Finite Fields
- Linear Block Codes: Generator matrix, systematic codes, Parity Check Matrix, syndrome, error detection, decoding, error correction, minimum distance of linear codes, Hamming codes]
- Cyclic codes [definition, algebraic structure, cyclic codes in systematic form, implementation of cyclic codes, decoding of cyclic codes, BCH codes]
- Reed-Solomon codes [Parameters, generator polynomials and R-S in systematic form, Decoding of R-S codes, Decoding with the Euclidean GCD algorithm, examples]
- Convolution codes
- CASE STUDY: Digital TV transmission
