Synthetic Biology Talk @ NTUA


On Wednesday, 15th of May 2019, the first Synthetic Biology Talk at the National Technical University of Athens was successfully completed. Participants were highly motivated and expanded their knowledge on the cutting-edge research field of Synthetic Biology, a field that requires interdisciplinary practice from different academic backgrounds. The event took place in the Multimedia Amphitheater of the NTUA Central Library under the auspices of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the NTUA, was presented by the student research team iGEM Athens 2019, in coordination and co-organization with the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Chapter (EMB) of the IEEE NTUA Student Branch.

At the start of the event, the IEEE NTUA EMB Chapter presented selected projects in the area of Biomedical Engineering, that drew special attention. Afterwards, the main event followed with speeches from members of the iGEM Athens 2019 research team presenting the main principles of Synthetic Biology, along with the International Competition iGEM, and their specific research proposal. Finally, discussion followed, during which there was great interest from the audience, and networking with members of iGEM Athens 2019 and representatives of the IEEE NTUA EMB Chapter and the IEEE NTUA Student Branch.
