Paper by ECE-NTUA Ph.D. student Charalampos Marantos receives the Best Paper Award at the 12th International Green and Sustainable Computing Conference (IGSC) 2021

We are pleased to announce that the article entitled "Decision Support for GPU Acceleration by Predicting Energy Savings and Programming Effort" received the Best Paper Award at the 12th International Green and Sustainable Computing Conference that was held on October 18-21, 2021 as a live, video streaming virtual conference.

The award-winning paper was a joint publication with the Department of Applied Informatics, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece and was co-authored by Charalampos Marantos (ECE-NTUA), Lazaros Papadopoulos (ECE-NTUA), Angeliki-Agathi Tsintzira (UoM), Apostolos Ampatzoglou (UoM), Alexander Chatzigeorgiou (UoM) and Dimitrios Soudris (ECE-NTUA).

This paper proposes a novel tool-flow that:

• Assists developers by analyzing CPU applications and predicting potential Energy Savings of GPU acceleration.

• Combines static and dynamic code analysis approaches, exploiting the advantages of both.

• Calculates and predicts the Programming Effort that is required for rewriting the applications, to achieve the predicted gains, before development.

• Is evaluated on NVIDIA heterogeneous devices using well-known benchmarks.

This work was partially supported by the EU projects SDK4ED (grant agreement No 780572) and EVOLVE (grant agreement No 825061).

The article will be published in the Elsevier journal “Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems (SUSCOM)” (Impact Factor 4.028) in the first quarter of 2022.
