Description
Elements of Thermodynamics: open and closed thermodynamic systems, first and second law of thermodynamics, entropy, enthalpy, available energy, state diagrams, thermodynamic cycles of Carnot and Rankine. Steam power plants: efficiency improvement, steam overheat, reheat turbine, feedwater preheaters. Environmental effects. Combined heat and power generation: advantages in terms of cost and emissions reduction. Hydro power plants: flow duration curve, hydraulic losses, hydro turbine types, specific speed, small and large power plants. Power generation from internal combustion engines, gas turbines, combined cycle plants.
