C-Track 50 project : Info Day on Energy


On the 19th of September 2019, an Info Day on Energy was co-organized in Athens by the C-Track 50 project and the Covenant of Mayors Office, under the auspices of the Regional Union of Municipalities in Attica and the Technical Chamber of Greece.

A keynote speech was addressed by Mr. Eero Ailio, from the Directorate General on Energy, Expert on issues related to Energy Transition and Local Governance. Opening speeches were also delivered by ECE-NTUA Prof. John Psarras, C-Track 50 Coordinator and Director of Decision Support Systems Laboratory, Mr. Dimitrios Kafantaris, A’ Vice President of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities, Mr. Georgios Ioakeimidis, President of the Regional Union of Municipalities in Attica, and ECE-NTUA Assoc.Prof. Haris Doukas, Vice President of the Representation of the Technical Chamber of Greece.

The C-Track 50 Project aims to mobilise and guide public authorities at a local and regional level, in order to achieve climate resilience and carbon neutrality by 2050. It has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 784974

Within the info day’s framework, a Signature Ceremony of the Covenant of Mayors was realised, for those municipalities willing to undertake commitments in sight of 2030, or validate their existing commitments. 29 municipalities across Greece signed these targets, and more specifically, the municipalities: Agios Dimitrios, Aegina, Alexandroupoli, Aliartos – Thespieis, Anogeia, Vari Voula Vouliagmeni, Elefsina, Elliniko Argyroupoli, Eretria, Ilion, Kesariani, Kalamata, Kea, Koridallos, Kropia, Lavreotiki, Loutraki – Perachora – Agioi Theodoroi, Mantoudi – Limni – Agia Anna, Messini, Mosxato – Tavros, Nikaia – Agios Ioannis Renti, Nisuros, Xiromero, Palaio Faliro, Penteli, Salamina, Fyli, Chalkida and Chania.

The info day was continued with presentations on long term planning on energy and climate, adaptation to climate change and best practices from municipalities. The second section was focused on the presentation of innovative funding tools and programmes.
