DSML Graduation Ceremony


On the 11th of October 2023, a special ceremony was held to honor the graduates of the year 2022 of the master's program "Data Science and Machine Learning (DMSL)", one of the most state-of-the-art master’s programs in the field. The program is offered by the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in collaboration with the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SAMPS), the School of Civil Engineering, and the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering (SRSE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

In the beginning of the ceremony, a warm greeting was extended to the graduates by the NTUA Rector Prof. Andreas Boudouvis. Through a nice and inspiring reference to survival bias, Prof. Boudouvis both summarized the basic principles of data science and congratulated the graduates of DSML. Extending his congratulations to the graduates of DSML, the ECE Dean Prof. Panayiotis Tsanakas highlighted their outstanding talent and qualifications. Subsequently, Prof. Nectarios Koziris and Prof. Giorgios Stamou, who were among the founders of DSML, extended their warm congratulations and best wishes to the graduates and described the motivation and the principles behind DSML. The Director of DSML, Prof. Dimitris Fotakis emphasized the outstanding potential and qualifications of DSML students and graduates and the exceptional quality of the program, which attracts top-ranking graduates from all Greek Universities and provides education that successfully balances between fundamental theoretical knowledge and important applications of cutting edge technologies.

Mr Michael Bizimis, graduated first (GPA 9.89) amongst his peers who commenced their studies in the academic year 2020-2021, was conferred the honor by the NTUA Rector Prof. Andreas Boudouvis. He and his fellow DSML graduate Christodoulos Santorinaios highlighted the diverse and carefully designed curriculum of the program and the importance of theoretical knowledge and the analytical and practical skills that they developed through DSML.
