ECE-NTUA 2020 Diploma Award Ceremony


The diploma award ceremony for the graduates of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens for the year 2020 was successfully held in the 15th and 16th of June 2022. More specifically, on June 15, the ceremony was held for the 2020 graduates (SURNAMES “Α-Λ”) and took place at the Ceremonial Hall of the NTUA Central Administration Building. Respectively, on June 16, the ceremony was held for the 2020 graduates (SURNAMES “M-Ω”) on the open place in front of the NTUA Central Library in the presence of representatives of the academic community who presented the diplomas. The ceremonies were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring speech from the NTUA Rector Prof. Andreas Boudouvis, followed by a warm address to the graduates by the ECE Dean Prof. Nectarios Koziris. Next, the students who performed exceptionally were presented with the Excellence Awards, established by the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE-NTUA) and the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS-NTUA) in the memory of three highly distinguished academics, namely the ECE Professors Christos Halkias, Spyros Tzafestas and George Kontaxis.

Specifically, for the year 2019 the award recipients were:

  • Entri Taka was presented with the Halkias Award
  • Asterios Tsiourvas was presented with the Tzafestas Award
  • Sophia-Anna Michaelidou was presented with the Kontaxis Award

For the year 2020, the award recipients were:

  • Christos Papananos was presented with the Halkias Award
  • Georgios Smyrnis was presented with the Tzafestas Award
  • Dimitrios Zarras was presented with the Kontaxis Award

Finally, the graduates received their diplomas amongst cheering and celebrations from their friends and relatives and the participants headed to the catering area for refreshments.
