DSML Graduation Ceremony

On the 12th of July 2022 a special ceremony was held to honor the graduates of the years 2020 and 2021 of the master's program "Data Science and Machine Learning", one of the most state-of-the-art master’s programs in the field. The program is offered by the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in collaboration with the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SAMPS), the School of Civil Engineering, and the School of Rural,Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering (SRSE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

In the beginning of the ceremony a warm greeting was extended to the graduates by the NTUA Rector Prof. Andreas Boudouvis, followed by a sincere address from the ECE Dean Prof. Nectarios Koziris. The Director of the DSML Program, Prof. Giorgos Stamou, in his speech commented on the impact of this particular master’s Program, which attracts top-ranking graduates from all Greek Universities and provides knowledge on cutting edge technologies.

Asterios Tsiourvas, graduated first (GPA 9,94) amongst his peers who commenced their studies in the academic year 2019-2020, stated: During__my studies at the MSc of Data Science and Machine Learning of NTUA, I had the chance to immerse myself in the field of Machine Learning and become familiar with emerging and exciting scientific fields at the intersection of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. At the same time, by attending courses from a broad and diverse curriculum, I developed both my theoretical and analytical skills. Most importantly, during my master thesis, I was lucky to collaborate with bright professors, who guided me, inspired me, and made me a better researcher. The overall master's experience greatly prepared me for the next step of my career, the doctoral studies at MIT's Operations Research Center.

Antonis Kakolyris, graduated first (GPA 9,72) amongst his peers who commenced their studies in the academic year 2018-2019, stated: Studying for the Data Science and Machine Learning Master’s Degree Program was a great opportunity. The curriculum covers a wide variety of subjects that gave me a complete picture of the field of data science: data processing, statistical analysis/modeling, knowledge representation, algorithms and contemporary machine/deep learning. In the core of this master's degree is interdisciplinarity, by being an interdepartmental program with students and teaching staff of various backgrounds, learning and working on interesting projects in diverse fields. Today, being able to work with and make sense of data is an essential skill, both in academia and industry, and this is one of the reasons I would highly recommend this master's degree.
