CanSat in Greece

In April 2017, the Greek high school space competition CanSat in Greece is organized by university students, for the first time in Greece. This competition is the preliminary phase of the European competition CanSats in Europe, organized by the European Space Agency (ESA).

CanSat in Greece 2017 is a voluntary, non-profit initiative of the IEEE NTUA Student Branch members. The competition is addressed to high-school students who are called to construct an educational can-sized satellite. During the final phase of the competition, the students’ satellites will be launched at an altitude of 1 kilometer, then during their landing they will execute a mission chosen by the students themselves. The missions will be evaluated and the team with the highest rating will represent Greece in the European finals. The competition’s main goal is the students’ familiarization with up-to-date space technologies while utilizing their knowledge on physics, computer programming and mathematics. Meanwhile, the students get used with the research methodology, they learn to cooperate and work as a team in order to achieve a common goal.

To this day, the competition has managed to inspire hundreds of students in Greece and multiply the interest of Greek schools. We received a total number of 26 applications, from which 10 schools were chosen. Right now, the teams are in the final phase of constructing their satellites. Every day the suspense culminates while the students are a step closer to living their dream, launching their own mini satellite.

You have the opportunity to attend the final event of the competition, if you want to! The entrance is free of charge! (Transportation and meals are optional and they are charged)
